ReadyNAS NV+ Fails to Power Up after Power Failure

After a power outage that lasted a day and a half, my ReadyNAS NV+ won't power up. Should I assume the problem is the power supply and that it's just a coincidence that it died just when there was an outage? Can a board or disk failure cause the unit to act as if it's completely dead? How much chance it there that it's not the power supply?

I've tried pressing the reset button after unplugging and re-plugging the unit, but nothing happens.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  • Hi Lestrad,

Have you tried using other power outlet(s) or power cord(s)?  If ever you have already tried it, then I advise you to open an online case with NETGEAR Support.  State what happened to your NAS and the troubleshooting steps we did to isolate the problem.  A replacement power supply for your NAS might be process for you.

Check this article below as reference on how to replace the power supply unit of your ReadyNAS NV+:

    Hi Lestrad,

Just a reminder, do not just press the reset button because things might become worse.  Hope you have a back up of your data stored in your NAS.

Here below are the steps I suggest you to do to isolate the problem:

    a. Connect your NAS directly to your PC.  Make sure that RAIDar is installed on the PC.

    b. The default IP address of the NAS is 192.168.168.168.  Set a static IP address on the PC that is within the range of the default IP address of the NAS.

Note: If ever your NAS has already a static IP address configured on it, then set a static IP address on the PC that is within the range of the static IP address configured on the NAS

    c. While the NAS is off, pull-out the drives.  Be sure to label the drives from which bay you will pull it out.

    d. Turn on the NAS.  Observe the LED lights as well as what will show on the LCD display.

    e. Open RAIDar and check if the NAS will be detected.

    Here are my questions below:

    1. What is the behavior of the LED lights as you try to turn on the NAS?

    2. What does it show on the LCD display when you try to turn on the NAS?

    3. Is the NAS detected on RAIDar when you turn it on?  If yes, what does it show on RAIDar? You may post a screenshot of it.

I look forward to your response.

    Regards,

Hi Dane, and thanks. One question: How do I connect the NAS directly? From one of the USB ports on the NAS? WHich one?

        Hi Lestrad,

Use a CAT5e ethernet cable to connect the LAN port of the NAS to the LAN port of your PC.

        Regards,
