ReadyNAS NV Not Powering Up

Hey all,

I'm scratching my head on this one. The last time I powered down my NV a year ago before going out of town I used the normal power button on the front of the chassis. When I returned home it fired right up and has fine ever since. Two days ago I shut it down using the admin portal web interface and it shut down normally but now won't boot up again. This is my second NV and when the power supply fried after a power outage I could smell it which isn't the case here. Is there some kind of reset procedure I'm missing here? I smashing the power button on the front of the chassis and there's just no response. Any ideas on this one? Sandshark?

Thanks!

  • The power-on circuit is powered by the +5VSB (5 volts standby) part of the power supply, as it has to stay on even when the NAS is "off". The NIC is also powered by it so WoL works.  So one thing to check is if the NIC LED is on when the unit is off.  (Note, it may be indicating a slow connection speed at that point).  Does it power on or do anything if you remove and apply power by pulling and replacing the cord?

Since the +5VSB is on all the time, it is more susceptible to failure.  Having already replaced your supply once, it's a bit less likely, but probably still the prime suspect.

Jumpering the power-on pin of the supply to ground while it's installed is a way you can see if it's the power-on circuit that's the problem.  But the supply itself undoubtedly uses the +5VSB as well for it's power-on, so if that doesn't power it up, you should check if jumpering with it it disconnected has the any effect.
