ReadyNAS NV+ reboot keep failing

I've noticed that my original ReadyNAS NV+ (RND4000), purchased in 2009, has had trouble rebooting when initiated from the GUI. It would shutdown OK but consistently gets stuck on rebooting. The unit hangs with Full FAN and would say "booting... Please Wait". After ten minutes, I pull the plug, wait a few minutes, put the plug back in and press the button to start up. Everything starts and works correctly. However, every time I reboot from the GUI menu, the same problem occurs. After shutdown and booting, I must force the unit to a hard shutdown.

Otherwise the units works correctly. I just ran a successful Volume scan after upgrading to the latest firmware, 4.1.14. Everything seems OK, but the problem persists. I also have an identical 2nd ReadyNAS RND4000 and it continues to work just fine and reboots correctly. Both units have 4 2B Hitachi drives.

Is there something I can do?

  • 1. Check the disks smart information and consider removing and testing all the disks ( if you do do this, only remove and reinsert the disk with the nas off)
    2. Delete ( don't download) all of your system and backup job logs.
    Do you have a backup?
