Readynas NV+ Slows down network when turned on/ plugged in
I have a readynas nv+ updated to 4.1.7 firmware. When I plug in or turn on the readynas, all my other computers on the network can't access the internet (it slows it down unbearably slowly). Within 5 seconds of unplugging the readynas, my network speeds are back to normal. But when I plug it back in, within 5 seconds, my network slows down again. Transferring files to/from the readynas is speedy, but accessing the internet is very slow. I've disabled all my addon services. Any advice what could be causing this slowdown? Thanks!

- gillsyAspirantHi, did you manage to get a solution to this as mine is doing it now
- hamburglarAspirantNo resolution. It's still problematic for me.
- bashirAspirantsame here - nv+ running 4.1.8 and i've had this happen a number of times also
painful really ... :( - NasinatorAspirantAre you running the DHCP server on your router and your NAS? Are you telling the NAS to run as a WINS server? Running DHCP on both your router and the NAS on one network would be the be the only immediate thing that comes to mind that could cause this.
- bashirAspirantmy DHCP server is running only on my router ... NAS only has AFP enabled.
am going to look at replacing my switch shortly and see if that makes a difference - rover55AspirantI am having the same problem. Router has DHCP. Readynas NV+ has a fixed IP. I also have a Duo. If the NV+ is off, the network is fine. If it is on, I quickly lose the network. The NV+ also freezes and I have to power it off. Shutdown will not work. Copying to or from the NV+ is painful to say the least.
I have tried everything I can find on the forums. Fixed speed, latest firmware, I even upgraded my switch to a Netgear switch that supported jumbo frames and upgraded all cables to CAT6. Tried it with and without jumbo frames. All to no avail.
I am now back to using my Duo and occasionally trying to back it up to the NV+.
I bought the NV+ becuase I wanted the extra storage. I use recommended drives as well.
I am very disappointed as I like the Duo, just needed more space. - hamburglarAspirantThis is still problematic. How can I reformat the NV+ without going through the web portal?
- bashirAspirantstill running 4.1.8 and bought an apple extreme gigabit switch recently (black friday specials)
installed it finally over the weekend. did a copy to the NAS, initially peaking at 10MB/s (not 10Mb/s), and then woefully dropped to below 1MB/s ....
and this is going from my mac pro (Gb connection) on the same switch to the NV+ NAS (Gb connection)
not sure if something is a miss with 4.1.8 in a mac environment and i can't go back to 4.1.7 as I run Lion and use the NAS as a Time Machine backup.
