OK... plugged the thing into a 10Mbps hub so I could monitor the network traffic from the laptop in case that gave mea a clue as to what was going on, and the **** thing suddenly became accessible for no readilly apparent reason.. Time to delve into the logs, I guess...

Well, you can try connecting the ReadyNAS directly to your PC, Router or another switch (supports 100/1000mbps). Also, tell us if the LAN link lights (LEDs) lit up. You may also want to try to perform OS reinstall and see if that helps. I doubt a USB ethernet adapter would work but you can give it a try and let us know what happens.
