gear-readynas-access-recovery/ followed by mdgm's suggestions after you clean the OS partition
# cd
# sync
# umount /mnt
# mdadm --stop --scando you have a backup?

Hi Andy,
Seem's like is a common issue. I even lost acces to the admin GUI and the had to rebuild the OS.

Hi Mike,
Looks like you are using OS 6. I did not upgrade to that. So while the causes may be similar my issue looks different. I can not enable any protocols and the share list has disappeared.
