ReadyNAS Pro 2 doesn't detect new disk
Hi all, My good ol' ReadyNAS Pro 2 just indicated a few days ago that disk #2 had failed (Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 1863 GB). I've replaced it (hot-swapped) with a similar one, a brand new Hitachi ...

Well... Doesn't look very bright. I've now put 2 new disks in, just to check it. Went into boot mode 'OS reinstall', but nothing happens. When I select the OS reinstall mode, power stays on, but all LEDs turn off and... nothing.
When I turn it off and reboot normally, the LED of disk 1 turn on, the disk makes some noise, the device requests and gets an IP address from the DHCP server, and that's it. Can ping it, but RAIDar doesn't detect it.
Since I need a NAS as the backup repository, I'll have to move quick. A few more tries, then I'll get a new unit. :mansad:

With new disks you'd need to do a factory default, not an OS reinstall. If the disks are unformatted that should happen automatically.
Can you test the new Ultrastar in a PC (perhaps using a USB adapter)? Not sure what diagnostic software to use, but perhaps try WD's Lifeguard.

Thanks for the help, Stephen. 8-)
I've tried the factory default too, but it didn't help. Will check the disks, yes.
EDIT: looks like I can telnet into the device, but neither my last valid password nor the factory one (netgear1) are accepted.
