Readynas Pro 6 4.2.27 upgrade OS6 VPD lost or corrupt please help

Dear All,

I have upgraded to os6 from 4.2.27 yesterday.

Upgrade process okay.

I have downloaded a log file after the upgrade to OS6 - the log file "System_log-nas-EA-7F-A5-20220712-074631.zip" (I can supply this file).

Note that I was able to save my data onto it (before I shut it down).

However, after I shut down the machine with OS6, it wont boot up again, boot process stuck at "Readynas".

Same problem per the discussion shown on the 2 attached image, on that post the problem was id as "VPD lost or corrupt".

Can someone help me please. I need access to the machine urgently.

  • Kindly provide me the 5 digit port code and resend the photos of the label

  • I have tested with another power supply to check if it was a power supply problem.

Still won't boot beyond "readynas" (on front panel display) with a different power supply.

  • Just to clarify my machine was purchased around 2012 as ultra 6 plus (4.2.X call it pro 6).

Looking forward to some assistance ASAP to get this old trusting NAS going again.

I want to put some larger capacity disk on it that is the main reason for upgrading to OS6.

Also refer to the attached image.

The readynas send an email message to notify "system shutting down", after which it won't boot any more.

I shut it down from web browser connection.

The time on the email is Australian time.

It could be a corrupt VPD - in which case Netgear will need to access it remotely and fix it. It could also be a PSU failure (coincidental timing).

Hopefully the mods will chime in with suggestions on how to proceed.

      Welcome to the Community!

Can RAIDar still detect the NAS? You can set the NAS on SDM through RAIDar just click the NAS icon several times. If you can set it to SDM, please send me the port code and photo of your NAS labels. Please send it to me via PM.

I saw my name tagged, I assume based on this thread:

@Shanedu have a read through that if you haven't already, your scenario does sound similar to mine, and I gave a pretty detailed run-down of every step I followed and everything that happened, including various screen shots, so you should be able to tell if yours is stuck the same way.

Unfortunately this was NOT a self-service fix from this state, and I had to supply the serial number and other info from the unit, and get supplied encrypted files to re-flash what had become corrupted on the unit. Apparently it's something that can just happen doing these upgrades, no real way to detect it or work around it.

If yours is stuck the same way, I would try contacting mdgm if he's still around, you can see his posts in the thread above, I recall he provided me some additional pointers on some things to check, and how to go about rectifying it all.
