One issue is that things like history of firmwares installed on the unit since last factory default, changes to partition tables on the unit, changes in SMART values etc. are recorded on the OS partition. If you wipe that you lose a lot of valuable information for troubleshooting issues and if support has to look at the system it may mislead them as to what firmware you last did a factory default on which could lead to them misdiagnosing an issue.
