ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer 4.2.22 hangs
I've seen other posts about ReadyNAS Pro's hanging, but didn't notice anything current.
In the past several months, my ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer hangs. (It may have been doing it longer, but I was out of town all last summer)
It does this at least weekly and it appears to do it when idle.
Nothing is shown on the front display and pushing the front button has no affect, but I haven't tried holding the button. I must power cycle the box.
I have it sleep each night and wake in the morning. I am uncertain if this is causing the issue or something else. I just know that when I go to use it, it is not there, RAIDar does not see it and wake on lan doesn't wake it up.
It is currently fully populated (6 disks of various sizes..)
Device Description Status
Disk 1 Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 2794 GB , 42 C / 107 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 2794 GB , 44 C / 111 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 3 Seagate ST31000340AS 931 GB , 39 C / 102 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 4 Seagate ST31000340AS 931 GB , 39 C / 102 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 5 WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1 1863 GB , 45 C / 113 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 6 WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1 1863 GB , 42 C / 107 F , Write-cache ON OK
Fan SYS 2057 RPM OK
Fan CPU 1939 RPM OK
Temp SYS 51 C / 123 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F] OK
Temp CPU 40.5 C / 104 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F] OK
UPS 1 APC Smart-UPS 750, Battery charge: 100%, 54 minutes OK
For the majority of time the disk sits idle.. I use it mostly for backup, CD and DVD storage, but it is kind of a pain when backups fail, or I can't listen/watch something.
I perform scrub and file consistency checks weekly.
The only non-Netgear add on I have installed is twonky.
Anybody else noticing this?
Thanks,
mike

- kato05AspirantHi mtrac, I've just started to see the same problem in the last week with my Pro Pioneer with V 4.2.22. I have not made any changes to my config in months and never had this problem before.
So far mine has only done this when it's idle, but it is idle most of the day and night. Yesterday I found I could power it off with the power button on the front, after pressing it for several seconds. During this time the display did not light up and it would not respond to pings before or during the power down.
Today I have turned off the option that spins the disks down after 30 minutes of being idle and I'll see if this makes a difference. Unfortunately the problem has been so random that I don't know how long I'll have to watch it for to see if this makes a difference, it's only hung twice in the last week.
Please post back if you resolve your issue, and I'll do the same.
Cheers. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you have ssh access enabled, you might check and see if the OS partition is getting full.
An OS reinstall can help with that. - kato05AspirantStephenB, thanks for your input.
Since I turned off automatic spin-down I have not had an issue in the last week. I don't consider this a solution as it was working fine with spin-down turned on for quite a long time. When I get a chance I'll re-enable it and see if the problem returns. If the problem does return I'll follow your suggestion of a reinstall.
