ReadyNas Pro Pioneer Resyncing issue

Hostname: NAS
Model: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition [X-RAID2]
Serial: 001f33ea2aeb
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.27
Memory: 2048 MB [4-5-5-15 DDR2]
IPv4 address: 1: 192.168.1.9
IPv4 address: 2: Not Connected
Volume C: Online, X-RAID2, 6 disks, 18% of 7394 GB used

Problem events in a nutshell:
-System crashed replaced all drives, year later system was resyncing
-Reinstalled OS to attempt fix, after a while, system started resyncing drives again
-Factory reset, one drive finally listed as dead.
-Removed dead drive and tested disk in windows and with WD test software, It worked FINE!!!!!!!!
-Did factory reset, system did a re-sync which took a long time, during which it rebooted a lot, but it seemed ok after that finished (but i didnt test for long).
-Added new sixth drive, system re-stripped, and now it is re-syncing
-The health of all drives appear fine

The problem is it is taking forever to re-sync and the system is rebooting frequently. Is rebooting over and over normal for re-syncing (see log below)? Given the fact that it does not state Rebooting device each time, is my system crashing?

Cut and paste of front view log showing the constant rebooting:

I wonder if the replacement power supply is compatible. When did you replace the PSU?

The NAS doesn't run a long disk test in normal mode and may not alway pick up problems with disks. A long test is done with the Disk Test boot menu option.

I would recommend running the Lifeguard extended test.
  • I replaced the power supply August 2013. I originally bought a SeaSonic SS-300SFD 300W SFX12V v3.1 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - OEM from new egg, but returned it and upgraded to a Silverstone Tek 450W SFX Form Factor Power Supply (ST45SF) for more available power. The SeaSonic part number matched what was in it originally if i recall correctly, the only problem was the stock cable lengths were to short and I had to add an extension cable to reach the motherboard.
  • I ran the memory test overnight, no errors reported.

  • Yes, so far no issues, but each one will take 13+ hours. I dont think the hard drives (mechanically) are the issue.

Understood, but it is still useful to know they passed the diagnostic.

BTW, I've had some drives pass the extended non-destructive test with flying colors, but fail when I ran the destructive write test. Though if that is provoking the resyncs, I'd expect to see something in the SMART stats.

Another option (after the diags are run) might be to schedule a disk scrub in the pro.

Was this a typo? (e.g., was it intended to be the same 1858 GB as the others??)
  • That appears to be a typo. I think i did align the cut and pasted text which probably caused it. Below is an untouched cut and paste. BTW, all is working fine right now. I am running the extended test on the drive that was labeled as dead mentioned in the first post (which was replaced by disk 3 shown below). I would expect this drive to be the one to show issues since it was deemed dead by the readynas.

  • Testing the drive the readynas labeled as dead, which was replaced by drive 3 in the list above, yielded only 3 bad sectors all of which were recovered. Data life guard reported the drive as passed. In addition, this drive is currently running fine as an external USB drive.
