Readynas Pro stuck on boot
I have a Readynas Pro that is refusing to boot.
When pressing the power butten the unit comes on, but goes no further than the Readynas logo on the display.
Disks are spinning up and fans are running.
I have tried the Usb recovery with no succes.
Pressing the reset button on the back with usb key in the backup slot when powering on the unit doesn´t give me the option to toggle betweeen modes (reinstall OS/factory default), it still goes no further than to the Readynas logo and is stuck there.
Could this be a hardware issue??

- a_burger_with_fAspirantwill it boot into tech support mode?
call tech support they will have to telnet into the unit - How does tech support mode work?
I have only tried the Usb recovery, but it doesn´t even get to the option of selecting modes.
When pressing the power button while it´s on and stuck, it switches off immediately. Doesn´t wait to power down or "say goodbye".
Could any of this indicate a cpu problem?
Or a broken flash? - a_burger_with_fAspirantwhen you boot it into tech support the unit will not fully boot nor will it start the raid
here are some instructions to access the boot menu
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu - The problem is I cannot get to the boot menu.
When I power on the unit with the reset button pressed, it only powers on and shows the Readynas logo on the display.
It never gets to the point where I can toggle between the different options:-( - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCould be a memory failure, or some other chassis problem. You should start an on-line support request (support.netgear.com), I suspect you will need to RMA the unit.
- I think I am well beyond the warranty I´m afraid:-(
How would the unit react if the Cpu or Ram were defective?
Would there be a warning on the display during boot?
One thing i noticed before this happened was that it took way longer to boot than normally.
I thought that it was because the disks were more than 90% full, but maybe not? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat model Pro do you have? The Pro Pioneer has a 3 year warranty. All other Pro units have a 5 year warranty. This assumes of course that you bought the unit brand new.
- It´s the Pro Pioneer with a 3 year warranty. I bought it second hand october 2010.
So I think I can kiss the warranty goodbye I´m afraid.
The only user-changeable parts are the Cpu and the Ram right?
Does anyone have any luck replacing the Cpu in a similar situation?
If I go nuts and buy a new Readynas Pro, will I be able to put the harddrives from this one into the new and recover my data? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

I think so.Hitman202 wrote:

Whilst those can be replaced NetGear doesn't support doing either of those.Hitman202 wrote:

Hook up a cable to the VGA header, and connect a USB keyboard to the ReadyNAS Pro. If you turn on the ReadyNAS Pro does anything show up on your display connected via VGA?Hitman202 wrote:

Yes. Provided the disks are fine that should work.
If you buy a new one go for the Ultra 6 Plus (RNDP600U-200) or the Pro 6 (RNDP6000-200). First put a spare disk (must not be from your array) in the NAS, then update to the firmware you were running before (or newer). Verify the update was successful, then power down, remove the spare disk and follow the migration procedure: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another - Wut? Vga? I don´t have a Vga output on my Readynas?
Or am I missing something?
I value your input, hope that I dont get to the point of having to buy a new one.
I have bought a new Cpu (second hand) and Ram, waiting for them to arrive.
Is this to risky??
