Readynas Replicate Service is ending January 1st, 2018?
After updating my ReadyNAS 526x to Firmware 6.9.0, I noticed that under the Readynas Replicate On/Off area it now says "Service is ending January 1st, 2018."
Does anyone know if this is true? Please say it isn't so!
ReadyDR uses port 5253, so that port needs to be forwarded in your home router to the destination NAS. You might also need to allow it (outbound) in your company router.
rsync-over-ssh uses port 22 - so that port would also need to be forwarded in your home router, and (outbound) in your company router.
Either way, you'll want to deploy DDNS on your home router, so you can use a hostname in the backup job.

It is true, and was communicated here also.
Alternatives are rsync (locally), rsync over ssh (over the internet), and ReadyDR (requires two business OX 6 ReadyNAS). ReadyDR is the closest to Replicate, and I believe it was developed to replace it.

I have spent a few hours investigating both Rsync over SSH and the ReadyDR. I've had no luck getting either to work and have looked at several articles on both. My goal is to back up shares from a ReadyNAS 526x at work location to a ReadyNAS 516 at my home. I've been using Replicate for years and would like to continue to back up shares to the unit at my home. I'm not sure if there is someone at Netgear who can help me out? The ReadyNAS at work is behind a Netgear SRX5308 vpn/firewall, and I'm not sure if that's where the problem is? We have no IT person - we are a relatively small company and I'm the closest thing to one. Years ago I remember using Rsync to accomplish the task remotely (before Replicate and OS 6). I have a static IP number at work location, but not home.
