Readynas RN312 / RN31200: How to physically reset the bios / Jumper location?
Hi,
I was tickering with the bios options of my RN312 in order to setup booting to a USB key, changing some values around boot order and USB options, using the device as a conventional PC, with a USB keyboard and an HDMI monitor plugged in.
Then it stopped booting, It was not able to reach the BIOS screen anymore. The front led is just blinking and no signal comes from the HDMI output anymore.
What I tried so far:
- I tried the reset instruction there, using the rear button: https://kb.netgear.com/22892/How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-102-202-212-or-312
- I took it appart and removed the CMOS battery.
None of that worked.
I also failed to identify any jumper/connector that would allow to reset the BIOS on the motherboard.
Would anyone know if such a thing is available on it?

Not sure how to fix that. It's generally not recommended to play with the BIOS options as it can brick devices. Worst case would be that the BIOS chip would need to be removed and replaced (though who knows where you'd get a replacement BIOS chip from and I presume this would require soldering which is very advanced repair) or replace the entire motherboard (would require getting a 2nd hand unit that could be in questionable condition).
A safer alternative (though not without some risk) to changing BIOS settings is to update the BIOS if the B if the system has an old BIOS. With the latest BIOS it's possible to automatically boot off a USB key.
Even without the latest BIOS you can also try things like chainlolading from the internal flash onto the disks for booting a 3rd party OS.
