It sounds like the previous USB recovery worked but, for unknown reasons, the unit did not shut down to let you know it was successful.

I was able to get the ReadyNAS to boot from USB recovery drive.
The display on the device says "ReadyNAS USB Recovery" and the monitor on the HDMI stops at: "gpio_it87: Unknow chip found, Chip 8721 Revision 4". I've attached a photo of the monitor.
So what's the deal here?

Yes, that's how I was able to create the USB recovery drive and boot to ReadyNAS using that recovery drive. Are you thinking the USB recovery drive is somehow corrupt?

I should have mentioned I don't have a Windows PC, so I used a Windows 10 virtual machine running in VMWare Fusion to create the USB recovery disk.
