ReadyNAS RND4000 Password recovery email address:
How can I reset the Password Recovery Email needed for the Password reset? I believe I registered my NAS many years ago under a differnt email address.

Yes, an OS re-install will set the password back to the default, netgear1. It will also set the unit to use DHCP if you previously had a static IP set. Unlike a factory default, your files will not be affected.

Are you asking because you've forgotten the password, or is this just for general knowledge?
Though this is definitely not usual security advice, if you think you might forget the admin password, I suggest writing it down and taping it to the inside of the door of the NAS. My reasoning here is because
- anyone with physical access to your NAS can reset the password from the boot menu (or mount the disks in a linux system).
- the password recovery email mechanism doesn't seem that reliable in practice.
The admin password really only provides network security.
But to answer your question: Registration doesn't matter for this. You set the recovery email on the same page where you set the admin password. You do need to make sure that you have email set up and working for notifications (otherwise the system can't send the recovery email).

Thanks for the info
Yes I have forgotten the password and want to reset without a factory reset and losing my data. Is that possible?
