ReadyNas RND4000 v3 not powering on after power cut
Hi there I have a RND4000 v3 (couldn't find this listed in model numbers but the device has number RND4250V3 and RND4450V3 listed too) and after a power cut the device is no longer powering on. I've ...

You have hardware revision 3 of the original NV+. We call all of the original (sparc-based) platforms "NV+ v1" here.

Can anyone help direct me to a site or seller in the UK that can supply the part and guidance on how to replace it, far too technical for me.Here is one supplier: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323971676540 Note it is possible to get "stock" supplies, perhaps for a bit less. But you'd need to make a change to the wiring in order to use them.
Netgear's instructions on replacement are here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-COMMON/Replacing%20the%20PSU.pdf

I hear a clicking noise when I plug the kettle lead inTry removing all the disks (powered down) - labeling them by slot number as you remove them. Then power up the NAS, and see if you still hear the clicking sound. Also, check if the LCD displays "no disks" or not.
If you see "no disks", then it is possible that you have a failed disk, and not a bad PSU. In this situation, try
- installing disks 2, 3, 4 in their original slots (leaving bay 1 empty).
- Power up, and see if the system boots.
If this fails, try again with disks 1, 3, 4 (again, in their original slots), followed by 1, 2, 4 and 1, 2, 3.
If you find a combination that boots, offload your data immediately.

Great thank you.
Will this one be suitable?

Just conscious that the one you sent it coming from Texas and will take weeks without a return policy, whereas this is UK and accepts returns? Thanks

Should also be fine. The original NV+ had a 200 watt supply - they upped it to 220 for the NVX, but NVX version will work in the NV+.
The one I linked was 350 watts, so definitely not the identical to the original. So you might be better off with this one (as well as getting the return option).
One challenge with third-party replacements is that they might need some work to get them to fit - often cables are too short (or too long).
There is a fallback if this gets too hard for you - get an extension cable, and keep the PSU outside the NAS. Not ideal, but enough to let you offload the data.

So... the replacement PSU arrived, I replaced it successfully and booted up, voila! I could access my data, viewed some images and played back videos without issue. To try and secure my data, I setup some jobs to backup the most important data. I was checking the backup log files to see the progress and eventually the log said it had reached it's limit and I needed to download the full logs (Logs tab). I proceeded to do this and it hung the ReadyNas in the browser and I couldn't access it over the network since then. Now it gets stuck in 'Booting mode' in every scenario - I have powered on the NAS with all drives removed and it appears in RAIDar. I've tried one disk at a time and various combinations but in the end, it stays stuck in booting. I've described below and attached screenshots to show what is happenning with all disks installed in the correct order.
1. Starts booting and completes the 'Quota chk'. Note indicator for disc 3 LED is flashing. Device displays on RADar for a while.
2. For a minute or so after this completes and the unit displays 'Booting' and the 'Act' LED is flashing, i can access the data on the NAS over the network. Suddenly the access stops
3. 'Act' LED flashes for a while whilst disk 3 LED is still flashing. However 'Act' LED eventually stops, disk 3 LED and the power LED are still flashing and the unit just displays booting. Device does not display on RAIDar
NOTE: On RAIDar, disk 2 had 150 ATA errors, I tried to boot with disks 1 & 3 as this is an X-RAID setup (Which should work right?) but I get similar results to the above.
I'm going to leave it running like this overnight to see if it comes to life, as I'm not sure if disk 3 flashing indicates its doing some sort of check or sync, but I'd have thought with disk 1 & 2 (without 3 in place) would allow it to boot.
What do you think the next step would be if it's still in the same state in the morning (as I expect it will be!)

You might have filled the 2 GB OS partition.
Have you ever used the linux command line (ssh)?
- ChiragtailorJan 11, 2022AspirantNo I haven't but I have mac and Windows machines so I imagine it's a case of running commands from the terminal to check this?
