- Jun 08, 2016Thanks for your response - I contacted a friend with lots of Linux experience, he managed to access the HDDs. One was empty but the other still showed the dates and is now being copied onto a fresh HDD. The Ultra 2 is no longer usable however, bay 1 won't function even with two brand new empty HDDs installed and a factory default reset. On to a new NAS ...

An OS reinstall is unlikely to help.
You might try contacting support (sooner rather than later) and ask for per-incident support. Data Recovery would be expensive, but they might be able to remount the volume without that.
Then refresh the backup before you do anything else.
