ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Volume expansion problem

Hi,

I added a new disk in my ReadyNAS Ultra 6 to expand the volume. Volume expansion started, but the the whole NAS froze (not even responding to ping) and I had to force a reboot (pressing power button for several seconds). After the reboot, the new disk is seen in the volume, but there has been no expansion : no added space available.

Could you tell me what could be done to "force" the expansion so that the added space provided by the new disk could be used ?

Thank you for your help.

Best Regards

  • What was the initial size of your volume and what size would it be now if the expansion completed?  It sounds like you have run into one of the expansion limits of the file system used by OS4.2.x:  The limits are explained in item 3 of this article: ReadyNAS-Volume-Expansion.  Your Ultra6 can run OS6, though unofficially.  So if you end up needing to factory default to get around your problem, you may want to consider going to OS6.  It has no similar limits.

  • I found this in the expansion.log file :

        Hi,

        Thank you for your answer.

It seems you are right since since the initial size of the volume was 3Tb (2x3Tb disks - redundant) and my problem occured when I tried to add the 5th disk (for an expected 12Tb volume).

And thank you also for the OS6 advise.

        Best Regards
