The NAS devices are connected to a smart ups.
The switch is managed , not smart.
However I could monitor the trafic (i think).
At the moment the problem NAS is still running and surprisingly fast.

There is no bonding AFIK. Just 2 IP adresses.
Next time I will try power cycling the switch.
If I switch the drives, will it work out of the box?

Not ideal unless you are connecting the NAS to two different networks. I suggest removing one of the ethernet cables while you are troubleshooting this.
Do you have ssh enabled on both NAS?

Yes. Make sure both NAS are powered down when you do the switch. Also, I recommend labeling the drives as you removed them (Both slot number and the original NAS).
The configuration is all stored on the drives, and the NAS boots from the drives. Obviously there are differences between the platforms, but the systems should apply the relevant changes when they first boot.

Are you seeing any other issues, especially related to power on/off? One possibility here is that the +5VSB (+5 volts standby), which powers the NIC and power on/off circuit, is failing. It's a bit early to say for sure that's it unless you are having other related issues. A replacement power supply would fix that.

I would nog know how to check this failure. Can you suggest some tests, including what to expect if it succeeds.

The only reliable way to test it is to replace the power supply and see if it goes away. If you have a "spare" ATX12V power supply, you can install it externally and see if that fixes it before you invest in a new compatible supply. But you'll need to insure you use masking tape or similar to insure the airflow remains good by covering up the fan outlet of the original supply and sealing any gaps left in running the power cable outside.
The best indicator is if you have power on/off issues in addition to network ones (especially inability to turn off except by long press of power button).
The problem could also be the Ethernet transceiver, which is non-repairable, though a power supply issue is more common at the age of your NAS. Have you had any power issues (especially a local lightning strike) that may have damaged the transceiver?
