ReadyNAS214 Unable to access share via Windows

I've just created a new share, to be used for FTP. I've left the SMB settings at their default and enabled the FTP Network Access option. I can't access the share from my Windows 7 PC.

 

Within the FTP Network Access -> Security section I've removed Read Only and Read/Write privileges from Everyone and given Read/Write privileges to a newly created user. This leaves admin and the new user with Read/Write privileges and all other rows with no privileges.

 

Within the SMB Network Access -> Security section Everyone has Read/Write privileges as does the admin user. Allow anonymouse access remains ticked. This is as created.

 

When I attempt to access the share from my Windows 7 PC I get a Enter Network Password dialogue and it won't accept the username and password of the admin user or the new user.

 

I'm able to connect to the NAS via FTP using either the admin or new user and can write to the new share.

 

Any ideas on what's wrong here?

    Windows only allows you to use one set of user credentials at a time.  So one possible explanation is that there was another open SMB session using a different username.

     

    If you normally use the NAS hostname to access shares, you could try using the IP address instead, and see if that works.  (or if you normally use the IP address, switch to the hostname).  Windows will treat the hostname and the ip address as two different machines, so they can have different credentials.

     

    You could alternatively reboot the PC before you try the mount test, or try running CMD and entering net use * /delete
