Release to run on Ultra6
Hello, I have an old readynas ultra6 that is still running the 4x release, I would like to run the new os6 and have followed the old thread for some time: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-y...
Seeing that it's unsupported and that 6.5.0 has some fixes for things such as the anti-virus performance issue I figured it would be best to provide that.
You can mod the 6.4.2 image yourself if you prefer.
RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x has always used the standard 4k block size. Moreover unless you moved your disks across from an older x86 ReadyNAS that was last factory reset on older firmware (pre-4.2.11) than what your Ultra 6 shipped with then your volume would be EXT4 with the standard 4k block size. You would need to start the RAID using mdadm, use lvm and the mount command.
But attempting to recover your data that way is a last resort. You should backup your data before doing the upgrade to OS6 then restore your data from backup.
ReadyNAS OS 6 uses mdadm with BTRFS as the filesystem on top. With OS6 volumes you just have to start the RAID using mdadm then mount the data volume using the mount command.
Note you should always check the state of the RAID and the health of the disks before attempting to start the RAID etc. connecting the disks to a Linux machine, and the straightforward steps above do assume that the disks, array and volume are all fine.
Thank you for your response and details on the 6.4.2/6.5.0 upgrade, I will give the 6.5.0 rc a try once my backup is complete.
I noticed once I actually mounted one of the disks on a linux machine that it is indeed just ext4 with a 4k block size, although as mentioned the disk is back in my NAS on 4x backing up now.
I've completed the upgrade to os 6.5.0-rc2 and it seems to be running ok, I do however continously receive a voltage warning which I did not receive before on os4:
V1_2 voltage in enclosure Internal is out of spec (0.98 V).
That is exactly the info I was looking for, I have no idea why my search for the full error did not find that post.
