Remote Power on - Can it be done ?

Hi all, sorry if this is another newbie question, but using ReadyNas remote I can obviously get into the admin section of front view, and remotely turn off my NV+ V2 and Duo V1 Nas drives. But is there anyway to remotely turn them on (i.e. when I'm away on business), or do you guys leave them on all the time ?

  • Not sure that it can be powered on remotely. I beleive that others have disuccesd ways to do WOL over the internet.

I leave mine on and take comfort that it is a well designed piece of kit that I consider to be commercial grade rather than consumer grade and suitbale for unattended operation on 24/7 basis.

Where I have mine stored, it can be months without me seeing it or even being in the same room!
  • You can not remotely start ReadyNAS remote and WOL (wake on land) will not turn on a service, but it will turn on the device. Also another work around is to VPN into your network and go into frontview to turn on the service.
  • Some routers offer a WOL option. You would login to the router management page remotely, then from there you could trigger the NAS to wake up.
