Remove deleted files on target not working
Hi everyone I have my nas set to backup via Rsync to a USB drive connected to a Windows machine running deltacopy
When I run a backup job on my nas it runs and reports as completed
I have recently deleted a few files off my nas but checking on the backup Hdd the deleted files are still there it successfully copys new items if I add one too the nas but isn't deleting files
I have the option enabled to delete files on target
Any help appreciated

- SharpyAspirantAfter more checking I can confirm that nothing is changing deleted files are still on the back up Hdd and new files haven't copied over either

I had a terrible time trying to set up DeltaCopy to work with a NAS-based Rsync backup. In my case, every file was being declared new and was overwritten, taking a huge amount of time. I finally abandoned it in favor of SyncBackFree on the PC side. If anyone has had success with DeltaCopy and a NAS-based rsync backup, please share your secret.
If only Windows Timeshare backup had delete on target capability, it would be an option.
- SharpyAspirantOh this has been the setup for over a year it's been working flawless other than now I'm assuming it might be because of the recent firmware update or something
After trying on multiple computers I can confirm that the backups arnt changing any of the data
it isn't copying any new files or removing deleted ones
can somebody confirm that rsync is working on there system

rsync works between OS4.x NASes and an OS6 NAS here...I used to use deltacopy for personal backups back in the day but I recall it not behaving predictably in some ways when it came to file copying. The windows rsync scene is pretty rough. I'm not sure what to suggest other than a straight cygwin install of rsync.
I think that might be over my skill level with Cygwin
Maby a virtual machine running some Linux install would work better for rsync although I have no Linux experience
how about a replacement way to backup my files ?
from NAS to Windows PC with USB drives
backing up the files that have changed only, also deleting the files that have been removed from the nas
i need to do something as my backups aren't running and are over a week old so as it stands if my drives fail I'm going to lose at least 1 week of data I'm extremely worried

I just tested from a ReadyNAS OS 6.7.4 to a Synology NAS, rsync with remove deleted files on target worked as expected.
- SharpyAspirantI have installed it but not realy looked at it much at the moment as I arnt sure what it does
The nas is on 20/7 and the pc 24/7
Does it only copy the files that have changed and also delete the files I have removed off the nas- SandsharkSensei - Experienced User
Yes, SyncBack Free has capabilities simlar to Rsync in only copying new/modified files and deleting removed files on target. It does not have the same incremental file modification capability -- it will replace the whole file when it is changed (which may be all DeltaCopy does, too). The paid versions offer some additional options, including versioning.
Of course, you could do something like that yourself with Robocopy, but this is so much easier. It seems faster, too -- I think it retains some information about the source and/or destination files so it doesn't have to check each one every time.
- SharpyAspirantThanks jak0 I appreciate that it helps with the process of elimination
