Yes it is possible. If the firmware you were running wasn't too old then the order shouldn't matter but it is best to keep the order the same.

Thank you so much for the quick response.
So, what you are saying is that I don't have to do anything else but remove my 4x2TB drives and replace them with my old old 4x250GB drives, reboot the ReadyNAS and I should get my old 1TB data back?.... right?...
I have nothing to reconfigure on my readyNAS? no reset, nothing?.....
if that the case that would be great!... :-)

Correct. Just make sure the NAS is powered down when you swap disks.
The NAS likely will try to upgrade the firmware on the disks (if the new drives are using newer firmware). Generally that's not a problem.
