RN102 Backup slow usb 3 speed
In our company we are using one unit of RN102 with 2TB WD RED harddisks in RAID1 mode with latest firmware 6.4.2.
The service we are using is SMB and AD users. Speed through gigabit network are sufficient around 40-50MB/s.
Our problem is the tragic slow speeds when we try to schedule and backup 1.2TB of data to an external WD Book via usb3 from the unit's interface. It took almost a whole day.
The RAID file system was created when we first bough the unit arround May 2014 (I do not remeber which firmware was installed that period).
Do we have to reset to defaults the unit and reformat the disks ?

There can be multiple sources for the slowness of the backup, fragmentation of the volume, unbalanced, anti-virus enabled (beware of known issue on 6.4.2) etc. But the one that is the most obvious is the issue on F/W 6.4.2 with the NTFS driver.
Many users have encountered slowness with NTFS USB HDDs since F/W 6.4.something. NETGEAR Engineering have confirmed that there is an issue with the NTFS driver used on ReadyNAS OS.
They have included a fix in the next F/W 6.5.0 Beta. Some users here confirmed that it's now faster.
The new F/W 6.5.0 will be released shortly, and it should fix your problem :) No need to Factory Default or format anything, just be a little bit patient (it's a matter of a few weeks at most).
