If you wanted to try a fresh install with your 320GB disk you should have unformatted it, not formatted it as NTFS. There are two common ways to unformat: (a) delete all partitions with windows disk manager, and (b) zero the drive with the vendor diagnostic (lifeguard or seatools).
Your link is not for your NAS, it is for the old SPARC version. Try support first (support.netgear.com), or perhaps mdgm might chime in on the RN100 series procedure.
