I hear that support has provided you with the procedure to do a USB Boot Recovery now.
These instructions are not made public as some users will use them when it is not appropriate which can cause further issues. USB Boot Recovery formats the internal flash and puts a good copy of the firmware on it. Too often users think a USB Boot Recovery will fix their problem when their issue has nothing to do with the problem that USB Boot Recovery fixes.
However your issue is clearly related to the internal flash. If a USB Boot Recovery doesn't fix it (try a second USB key if it doesn't work with the first one) then an RMA would be needed.
