RN204 Adding a 2nd smaller disk

Hi Guys,

New one here. I have ready nas 204 with one 4TB disk. I've set it up some time ago and now I've freed one old 500gb disk. I would like to use the 500gb as a backup. I want to make weekly jobs which will copy the most important folders from the 4TB to the 500GB disk. (no $ for 2nd 4 tb disk for now).

Is the only way to do so is to create a 2nd volue and thus swithc to Flex - Raid? Will switching to flex raid delete the data on my 4gb disk? What if the disk is not in the ReadyNas?

Do you have any better recomendations?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Dimitar

  • Yeah, you're on the right track.

    1. Switch to flex raid (your data on the 4TB drive will not be affected)
    2. Add new disk
    3. On the volume page, create a new volume with the new smaller disk

      Hello depitropov,

Data stored to the existing disk that is configured as XRAID which I believe is RAID1 should stay intact when you switch over to FlexRAID and add the 2nd disk. You can set it as JBOD instead so the 2nd disk volume is separated from the 1st disk's. But then again, we always strongly recommend to always have full backup of the data.

      Regards,
