RN2120- Automatic PC Backup
I am thinking of purchasing an RN2120 but looking at disk solutions and trying to work out how many disks we would require.
Does anyone know the average size on a complete Automatic Backup using the NEW PC app. Does the Backup get compressed at all when it saves to the ReadyNAS.
If anyone can provide any guidence on this as I cannot see anything obvious on the website.
Thanks
Simon.

or is backup jobs only for backup between NAS drives?
You can backup from (or to) a Windows share also.
C$ likely won't work well - you certainly can't backup up the C drive in windows by trying to copy the files. Many are locked down, and/or always open. If you want to do a full PC backup, then you'll need to use a PC backup tool (which can write to the NAS). I use Acronis TrueImage myself. There is a guide for using Windows Backup here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24913
I've never attempted using an administrative share (which is what the $ means), it is possible that the NAS backup won't handle the $.

Hello nomis23uk,
Welcome to the community!
Are you referring to a backup client installed to a computer? Or the backup job in the admin page?
There is no setting on the admin page of the NAS where it will allow you to configure or set a size for backup files that come in from another server. However, it is possible to configure 1 volume for the backup.
Here is a simulator you can use to test and look around what you can possibly do on the NAS: https://rndemo.netgear.com/admin/
It is using the default login.

Thanks for the welcome.
I was looking at the automatic backup / Sync from a client computer to a the ReadyNAS.
I was curious if Netgear have programmed in to compress the backup or does it do it like for like.
For example lets say:
User A chooses to sync the documents folder thats 1.4gb in size, when the backup job completes will this take up 1.4gb on the NAS?
thanks.
