RN314 Backups Fail When I Change USB Drives

I'm using v6.6.1. AV is off.

I am backing up to external USB drives, which I change every 2 days. When I initially set it up, the back up ran fine the first time. When I change to another drive, the back up fails whether I do it manually or on a schedule.

The drives show up fine in Shares, and they show that they are available in the backup configuration.

If I change the share Network Access permissions for the drive, it will backup successfully again, but only until I change to another drive. Even if I change the permission and change it back to where it was before, it will still run fine, until I physically change the drive. If I plug that same drive in the following week, it will fail on backup until I change permissions. Then again, it will only backup successfully until I plug in another drive.

So, although I can get it to work each time by changing permissions, it's a very manual process. If I am out of the office, and the office staff changes out the drives as they are supposed to, we will have no backups.

I've been searching on this forum and on the internet, but I have not found any solutions to this.

    Hi Waterboy99,

I think what he wanted was to try and re-configure the back-up job to point out the USB location rather than a share.

    Regards,

  • Is your backup job configured to use a USB port as destination or a USB drive share?
What's the filesystem on the drives?
Do you cleanly unmount it before disconnecting it?
    Did that ever work?
Do you read the drives somewhere else between two backups?

      It's mapped to a Share

      NTFS

No, but I tried the automatic "Dismount after backup" but it wouldn't backup the next night because it couldn't find the drive. Not going to ask staff to dismount the drive when they change it. Should not have to use a manual procedure.

      No use between backups.

  • Backup to usb port instead of usb share, press and hold backup button to unmount front usb port (iirc), use a dummy backup job to unmount the USB port and add it at the end the backup button job list, there are several things to try and plenty of threads talking about it.
