RND2120v1 - Error when inserting new HDD
Hi Netgear community, I'm very green when it comes to network storage, so I have some basic questions that I hope I can get some help with here. My ReadyNAS is running out of space on its 2T...
The problem here is that the Duo v1 can't handle disks bigger than 2 TB - so it is already maxed out. It actually thinks your 4 TB is smaller than 2 TB, so the error is saying your disk is too small.
You'll need to get another NAS to get more storage - the current entry-level ReadyNAS is the RN212. It's a lot faster than your Duo, and can handle any size disk.
There is a stop-gap if you need the space immediately. You can back up the files and change to flex-raid (which requires a factory reset). Then set up the system with one volume on each disk (giving you two 2TB volumes). There would be no RAID protection, and if a disk fails you'll need to create a new volume and restore the files from backup.

If the readyNAS duo v1 only accepts HDDs with a capacity of 2TB and less, why does the list of compatible hardware for the readyNAS 2120 contain HDDs up to 16TB of space? Is the list referering to a different version that the V1?
Your Duo is an RND2120. There are multiple part numbers for the Duo, depending on what drives it shipped with. I suspect you accidently consulted the compatibility list for a rack-mount RN2120, which runs a later OS. There are a few other places where Netgear has needlessly used the same numeric portion of a part number, leading to potential confusion.
Just did a double check on the compatability list and you are absolutly right, I did look up the RN2120 and not the RND2120.
