RND4000 v3
Hello, I lost 1 drive recently, does anyone used WD40EFAX or WD40EFZX or WD4003FFBX for RND4000 v3? I would like to replace all drives, after long years to preve...
You have what we refer to as an NV+v1. The sticker that best tells me that is the OS version. A V1 runs OS4.1.x and a V2 runs 5.x.
Yes, it's confusing. Netgear made a serious error in jugement when it released the Duo and NV+ "V2" units so named because they already had units marked as V2 or V3, though those were not intended to be part of the model name. They simply represent very minor changes in the hardware, whereas the "real" V2's are a complete re-design.
So, you cannot use the 4TB drives due to hardware limitations. Fortunately, you came here first and asked.
Your message is confusing since you state it's an RND4000 but selected RNDX4000 (NVX) for the model. Given the "V3" part, I suspect you have an NV+ (which, in spite of the labeling, we refer to as an NV+ V1 here) that will only accept up to 2TB drives. And you won't just be limited to 2TB of a larger one, you'll get much less.
The EFAX (WD Red) is a bad choice for a RAID system because it uses SMR recording.
The other two you listed (Red Plus and Red Pro) should work fine in an NVX (RNDX4000), but only the 2TB model will work in an NV+ (RND4000). You'll see no speed improvement with the Pro over the Plus in that NAS. The Plus will run cooler, but the Pro has a longer warranty.

thank you for quic reply, my lodel is NV+ v2 (at the back side written v3). Netgear compatibility list says that
WD RED WD40EFRX
is possible, so I assume that the 4TB can be used. But it is not possible to buy in Czech.
The NAS is running with three drives at the moment:
2xWD20EVDS 2TB 7200rpm
1xSeagate Barracuda ST 2000DM001 7200rpm
When I replace broken drive only, capacity will nod go up. Could I replace two drives with the RED plus WD40EFZX 5400 rpm?
Will capacity gow up? Is there any prob with speed? Replace them all? What about capacity than?

OK, so you have a unit that says NV+ V2 on the front, and is black in color with an external power supply? If so, then a 4TB will work. I was not aware any of those had the "V3" sticker on them.
Netgear does not recommend mixing drive speeds, and I have no experience doing so on an NV+v2 and have heard of no issues here. I had a problem with drives that spun up in different amounts of time on a Pro BE, but have not heard that from anybody else, so I think it's rare.
Yes, replacing only one drive will not cause expansion because there is no second drive for redundancy. Replacing a second will expand. I don't recommend going any bigger than 4x4TB on that unit, it just wasn't designed for it, even if there's not a specific limit.

it looks, not so easy, with my Netgear, please find sticker attached - it says RND4000 v3 (serial No. also visible), but NV+at front door.
Can you please look at it once again. I have two choices I think - if it is NV+ only replace 1 drive with WD2002FFSX or
if it is v3 (NGR-RND4250-4450), replace all drives 4TB WD40EFZX.
Im still confused...
