RNDP 6000/WD20EARS installation issues-support id 16176940
Hi,
i'm trying to reconfig my unit and am having all kinds of issues. when i put all 6 HDD's in, RAIDar give me a corrupt root error and won't do anything. when i put a single hdd in, and try to setup using any RAID combination and create a volume, it appears the operation starts, but then RAIDar "hiccups" and takes me back to setup.
any suggestions on how to get around this? i did a quick search and tried the moving hdd's between slots 1-2, that didn't work.

- PapaBear1ApprenticeHave you run WD Data Lifeguard tests on that one drive?
Have you tried other single drives?
If this is a new unit, you have 90 days of free tech support by telephone. Beyond that you have free support by on line submission as long as the unit is in warranty (which it should still be). - d_rickTutorjust tried factory reset, it nows sees all 6 HDD's, but when i try and set up the RAID volume it still hiccups and doesn't do anything.
front panel shows:
awaiting RAIDar
timer stopped - d_rickTutor

yes i did try the WD utilities and the HDD is seen and usable.

i also tried doing this from a Win 7 machine as well as a W2K8 Server, no difference in ether - PapaBear1ApprenticeOpen an on line tech support case. Once you have a case number, edit your first post and add the case number to the header.
You have free on line support for the life of the warranty on your NAS (5 years). - d_rickTutor

case ID added to 1st post - PapaBear1ApprenticeIf you would edit your first post and add the case number to the header in the subject bar, not the body. This will put the case number in the listing of topics so it may catch the eye of a wandering Jedi. They do browse the topics from time to time, and can occasionally join in.

- d_rickTutorok, here is what i had to do in order to fix this.
1. hard reset
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu
Factory default. Initiates a short disk test that takes approximately 5 minutes, then begins a 10-minute time-out period waiting for RAIDar. During the 10-minute time-out period, the system can be powered off safely without causing any data loss. After 10 minutes, or if you select the factory default option with RAIDar during the time-out period, the factory default process begins. WARNING! The factory default reboot process resets the unit to factory settings, erases all data, resets all defaults, and reformats the disk to X-RAID2.
2. do NOT try to connect to toaster using RAIDar during this time
3. let it sit for 1+ hours
4. system resets itself and created a new volume with all defaults
5. then go back in and delete x-raid volume, create what i wanted and made all other changes as required
apparently what i was doing wrong was trying to connect to the system during the reset process which stops the process altogether
weird...
