rsync backup problems: remote linux->RN312

I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server that has rsyncd set up and I want to create an rsync backup on the RN312. I've already been using rsync to back the Ubuntu machine up to my old ReadyNAS duo for years, so I just recreated the backup job on the new RN312. I made sure to modify the rsyncd.conf file on the remote machine to allow the new NAS to connect to it, and I restarted the remote rsyncd to be sure it picked up the configs. I also bumped up logging verbosity on the remote Ubuntu box.

When I click on Test Connection on the RN312 for the backup job, it comes back successfully, even though I see nothing in the rsync.log on the remote machine. However, when I start the job it sits for a while and then fails with a message that it can't connect to the remote Ubuntu machine. Again, I see nothing in the Ubuntu machine's log files that indicates the NAS has even tried to connect to it.

Any ideas what's going on? I've poked around on the RN312 log files and haven't seen any more details. How can Test Connection succeed but the backup job fail to connect to the remote machine?

    What version of Rsync is on the Ubuntu machine?

    Can you provide the full settings for your backup job (either in this thread or via PM)?
  • Ubuntu config provided in PM - thanks!

    Is there any way to bump up the rsync client logging on the NAS side?
  • I am an idiot. I had a firewall rule limiting incoming connections to port 873 to just the IP of the old NAS. The rules were so old I'd forgotten about that, and the new NAS of course has a different IP. As soon as I opened up port 873 to the new NAS's IP, it worked. Sorry for the bother!
