Rsync local to remote (outbound) creates snapshot prior to running backup (can anyone confirm)?
Hi All,
Can anyone confirm that when a local-to-remote rsync backup job starts on OS 6.8, a snapshot is first taken of the local share to maintain consistency during the outbound rsync transfer? I'm talking about backup jobs scheduled through frontview.
Pre-rsync snapshots are implied in the readynas os 6 manual p. 245 "You can schedule a backup job to automatically run as frequently as once every hour, daily, or just once a week. The backup schedule is offset by five minutes from the hour to allow you to schedule snapshots on the hour (snapshots are almost instantaneous) and perform backups of those snapshots"
Also, I find pre-rsync snapshotting mentioned by jak0lantash in a community post about rsync remote backups.
I'm just looking for someone who is definitely in the know to give me a 100% confirmation, so I don't have to write my own snapshotting and rsync backup script.
I'm trying to create an offsite backup scheme that runs from my ReadyNAS 316 to a remote server. I will be using rsync over ssh.
Thanks!
Damon
The backup process does take a snapshot that it removes again once done. You should see this snapshot if you download the logs during a backup.
