Safari spins 100% CPU after a while in 6.0.8 admin UI

I am new to ReadyNAS with a new RN-102 running OS 6.0.8.

Most of my admin access is done from a mac running OS X 10.8.4, using Safari 6.0.5 (8536.30.1). I find that when I leave the web admin UI open in Safari and come back much later (maybe the next day), Safari is consuming 100% CPU (i.e. 100% out of 800% but still). I find that the UI still works, although as I navigate around, the CPU stays pegged. When I close the ReadyNAS tab in Safari, or refresh the page, we return to normal CPU usage. It doesn't seem to need to have a specific UI panel open in order for the problem to start - it has happened on the System->Volumes and System->Overview panels at least, and probably others.

I have tried to reproduce the issue using chrome rather than Safari, and I have not been able to get chrome to do the same thing - suggesting it is either a Safari bug or browser incompatibility. I have not tried diagnosing it further (e.g. what js is executing) - hoping not to have to.

Anyone else experiencing this?

In case it matters: RN-102 is populated with 2 internal drives (X-RAID RAID1) and one external USB 3.0 HDD formatted with NTFS. Only installed app is LMS.

  • I had problems with Safari5 under OSX.6.8 and a 312 under OS6.0.8: some pages, like the one to create accounts, don't display all their elements. It was impossible to me to create accounts as the "create" and "cancel" buttons (or whatever they are called) remains invisible.
I switched to FireFox to continue the setup and contacted Netgear's support.
They proposed me to reinstall the OS, but this didn't help. Now they want to have ssh access to my nas, but I'm now on holiday, so the case is still open.

Fortunately chrome and firefox run on most devices, and are free downloads.
  • Agreed to both replies above however Safari 5.0 and later is an officially supported browser per http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23411/~/what-operating-systems-and-internet-browsers-are-supported-on-my-readynas-os-6 so these issues ought to be considered bugs.

BTW, pdelges, I saw similar UI issues a couple times when using an older (10.6.8) Macbook to configure users when I first got my unit, but I cannot reproduce it from my primary desktop (a newer Mac) now. Anyway you are not alone with that issue.
  • Irl, I had a similar problem with FireFox (under X.6.eight) yesterday: after 8 hours opened on an admin UI page, FireFox was totallly unresponsive. Unfortunately, I didn't check the CPU%.

About my other problem with Safari5, here is Netgear's support "final" answer:
The high level inform me that is an issue about the FW and the engineer team work on it so you can use the safari6 for now any you can follow up the new Firmware on :

I suppose it's useless to remind them that Safari5 is advertised as compatible with radiator6.0.8 :?
