when trying a remote backup on to a usb drive (extract from log file )

cp: cannot stat `/USB_HDD_12/xxxxxxxx/Websites': Input/output error

Reason for failure:

from nas to usb
cp: cannot create directory `/USB_HDD_11/Music/Diplo, Borgore': Input/output error

Reason for failure:
Error encountered copying data from source path ==> /USB_HDD_11/Music due to unknown reason. Please see log.

  • What firmware is running on the duo?
How are the USB disks formatted?
If you have removed the USB disks from the duo at any stage, did you dismount them properly?
  • firmware 5.3.10
    formatted ntfs
removed but not dismounted then full formatted (not quick)
  • So the disks were mounted on the duo and you removed them without dismounting them in the GUI? If so this may be the problem. Did you format them on a PC or from the nas?
Have you tested the 3 tb disks?
Are the USB disks AC powered?
  • the disk disappeared on the dash board so I removed them
and reformatted them on a windows machine and

the disks work fine on several windows machines

the disk are seagate 3.5 ac powered drives

after full format i still get the same errors
  • Have you tried a different format ? Ext3?
I'd still check them thoroughly with sea tools, the disks may seem ok but I/O errors suggest a hardware or file system problem.
Maybe the USB disks are not compatible?
  • I doubt the issue is with BOTH drives. and the drives are listed as compatible on the HCL post.

i have not tried another format but it shouldn't matter? are there any additional logs to check?
  • There are backup logs in the main log download,, not sure I'd be able to diagnose the problem from them .someone here may though.do the errors always happen with the same files/ folders?
