- luriumAspirantHas Netgear had any luck getting some answer from Seagate on this issue?
I've also got 6x seagate ST31500341AS SD17 and there are probably many users out there with these drives. - spudz72AspirantAlso very anxious to hear if there is any news (hopefully good) as I have 12 of these drives in my hands waiting to be used.
- doodlydoodAspirantSo I upgraded my Readynas NV+ with these drives over the weekend from 4x500GB. The upgrade went smoothly.
I can stream - with no stutters - 700MB DIVX files through my XBOX whilst simultaneously backing a Macintosh computer to the NAS.
I can play a 4.5GB DVD image with no stuttering if the NAS isn't busy. So, it seems (for me at least) that there aren't any apparent issues.
Other users: When are you experiencing problems? - Blues11LuminaryI'm certainly disappointed, too. I purchased 4 of the 1.5TB Seagates after I confirmed they were on the Compatibility List with the new software upgrade.
When I contacted Netgear they weren't very confident that they would have a fix for this problem. Bummer!
What's odd for me is that streaming audio and video work fine. What doesn't work is just getting a directory listing. That can take 15 or 20 minutes or more. - spudz72AspirantTo me it sounds a lot like this might be Seagates problem. I'm seeing reports all over the net in diff. places of people having these issues. With Synology NAS's and also it appears one guy is probably using the drive directly on a SATA connector in his PC because mentions trying the drive on 2 different computers both running Vista. But then on the other hand I have also heard of other users that haven't had any problems. So almost seems like there are a bad batch of drives maybe? The link below shows the references above I mentioned.

Is the issue that is happening only on reading? I ask because I have one of my 1.5TB drives in an Vantec NexStar SATA Drive Dock and I have copied around 1TB of dvd .iso files to it and it's been writing for hours without a hitch. I have yet to try reading from it though. One it's almost full I will try watching some movies off it and see what happens.
Has anyone contacted Seagate directly recently to see if they have any comments about this yet? - chirpaLuminary
We are working directly with Seagate on the issue.spudz72 wrote: Has anyone contacted Seagate directly recently to see if they have any comments about this yet? - reelmccoyAspirantCan confirm wierdness with this drive and the Pro. Started playing back a Quicktime video stored on the Pro with 6 of these drives. It pauses every so often. Wow. Wish I had seen these were pulled off the HCL before I bought them. Hope Seagate figures this out and it won't mean full out hardware replacement.
- mraneriAspirantAny hint at this point from the Jedi's if you will be able to work around this in the readynas firmware? Just checked the Seagate website, and they don't generally permit end-users to upgrade firmware, so it would mean sending the drives back for refurbished ones...
Not good...
- Mike - reelmccoyAspirantSo what's the likelihood Seagate will have a solution by early next week? I've got another 7 day window to send these drives back. :\ I'd like to hold on to them if I knew there was a firmware fix coming but if it's not likely to happen, I might as well step back in capacity.

As it looks right now 7 days may to optimistic to expect a fix. As this point I have no idea when this would get resolved.
