Setting up RAID6 and RAID0 side-by-side?
Hey guys, I've tried to find an answer for this but wasn't able to myself - if this has been answered before, please don't hesitate to let me RTFM. :) The question is pretty simple, can RAID6 and...

Yes, but that is not recommended.
You would get no more space with that configuration and if either of the disks used by the RAID-0 volume failed all the data on the RAID-0 volume would be lost.
If you disable X-RAID you can destroy (wipes all data) the volume and create the ones you want.

I'm not a fan of spanning RAID-0 either. As mgdm says, xraid with dual redundancy will give you the same total space in a single 16 TB volume.
If the 2x2TB drives are already installed and using xraid, then you can expand to 4x6TB+2x2TB dual redundancy.
If the 4x6TB drives are already installed, then you can't add the 2TB drives to that array. You'd either need to switch to flexraid and create 2 2TB jbod volumes (safer than raid-0), or create a new volume/restore data from backup.

Thanks guys for your input. At this point all drives are blank.
Stephen, I am slightly confused now. Per this NTGR document, JBOD can only be configured for one disk (even though I understand that the concept of JBOD isn't to have just one drive). I had hoped that document was wrong/misleading, but would have settled with RAID0 instead but as you JBOD would be my favorite.
The VOLUME1 (RAID6) is for storage only and I really want that 2 disk failsafe (had 2 disks fail while I was out of town for a few weeks a while back... lost a bunch of data in the process - call me paranoid). The VOLUME2 (RAID0 or preferrably JBOD) is just a storage on the NAS for moving data around, the data in question is backed-up elsewhere - let's call it a TEMP/TRANSFER-VOLUME. So I am not concerned about the missing redundancy on that volume.
Again, thanks for your input - I'll try setting up the 4x6TB RAID6 and then the 2x2TB JOBD per your suggestion. Will report back.

You can create up to four volumes with FlexRaid, and I have multiple JBOD volumes two OS6 NAS (and a duo v1).
JBOD won't work if iyou have a share that is too large to fit on a single drive, and RAID-0 sometimes is a bit faster. But its fragile, so it is very important to maintain backups if you use it.
