Slow Transfer Speeds

I have just connected a new ReadyNas NV+ to my Gigabit network. The main function this unit is to provide a backup system for the Windows Server 2008. The sever is quad core with 8GB ram. The transfer speeds within the network are between 60mbs & 80mbs
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] Serial: 23J51272014B2
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.8 [1.00a043]
Memory: 1024 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
IPv4 address:: 192.168.123.108 Volume C: Online, X-RAID, 2 disks, 36% of 1841 GB used
Disk 1Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 1862 GB , 33 C / 91 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 1862 GB , 35 C / 95 F , Write-cache ON OK
Fan 12343 RPMOK
Temp 135.0 C / 95 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F] OK
UPS 1Not presentOK
Services: only the CIFS & HTTP have been enabled.
Two shares have been setup one for the backup data from the sever & the other is for testing.
I have used the IOmeter to test the read/write speeds & the outcome very slow.
Write MBps 5.933745
Read MBps 5.893053
I have also tested using a 3gb file drag & drop the windows reported speed was 10 MBs.
I currently use backup4all professional 4 to USB drives. The system normally completes a backup in about 41 minutes & the worst time recorded was 3 hours.
The time for the same backup to the RadyNas drive was 41 hours.
How can I get an acceptable transfer rate from the ReadyNas

Do you really mean megabits per second? If so, that is the same speed that windows reported on the drop and drag. (10 MBs is the same as 80 mbs). A gigabit network should deliver >10x these speeds.

if acceptable is 60-80 MBs, then you should return the NV+ and buy a pro or an ultra. The NV+ won't go that fast. If you want to tune your ReadyNAS speed, there is more info here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=310
  • In an optimal environment running Jumbo Frames, all journaling turned off, running only the CIFs services nothing else, and fast CIFs writes enabled the absolute best performance I've benchmarked with IOMeter is 43MB/s read and 38MB/s write using the X-RAID disk configuration. That is pretty much the max the CPU in the NV+ can do. I can tell you that I've never come close to those numbers using FW 4.1.8. I can only get those numbers using FW 4.1.7. It may be worth your time to downgrade to 4.1.7 and see if it improves for you.

However if you are looking for 60-80 MB/s speeds then don't waste your time. Return the NV+ and go buy the Pro/Ultra 4 or 6.
