I don't see how a UPS issue would spread to SMART errors on the disks. Also, if the UPS is delivering inadequate power, I'd expect the duo to generate alerts on the voltage.
You can shut down the NAS and connect the drives to a PC - running SeaTools. You can also check the SMART stats on the PC (they are stored by the drive firmware, not the NAS). Acronis Drive Monitor is one freeware package that will show them.
