NFS is a native Linux file system and SMB is not, I'm not surprised that NFS is faster, but am a bit that it's that much faster. The fact the SMB is not case sensitive where NFS is may be making a big difference when it comes to a search.

NFS generally is faster when you are reading/writing lots of small files, so I'm not surprised that it is also faster for browsing. https://ferhatakgun.com/network-share-performance-differences-between-nfs-smb/ is one of several google reports on this.

Ok, in that case, how can I make NFS show UTF filenames correctly? SMB shows them fine.
