Snapshots in 6.6.1 - New changes option, power on behavior, and custom settings
I recently upgraded to 6.6.1 and I have researched all the Snapshot posts I can but still don't know what the right solution is for me. I use my NAS to store things that are only rarely changed.....

If you use the custom settings, you can use the power timer to be sure it's on when a snapshot is scheduled. If we know when the Smart snapshots are taken (I don't use them), you could do the same. Since snapshot promotion happens at midnight, it's a good bet that snapshots occur immediately afterward, but surely sombody knows for sure. One problem, though, is it will still try to shut it down at the end of the period even if you manually powered it on (but only if the snapshot and any other maintenance tasks have completed). A new snapshot of a share that has not changed takes very little space (for Smart snapshots or if you have checked the only take snapshot with changes box in Custom), so perhaps you should be less concerned about taking them more often.

Thanks for the info!
I guess rather than messing around with custom and spinning it up and down I will just use the "smart" option since it sounds like extra snapshots after no changes don't take up much space.
Thanks,
