Sony Bravia DLNA didn´t show video files on ReadyNAS 516
Hi,
I´ve recently set up a ReadyNAS 516. To test DLNA features on a Bravia TV, I added several video files with a variety of video formats (e.g. mov, avi, m2v, 3gp, 3g2, m4v, mp4, wmv) in the ReadyNAS Videos share. The effect on the Bravia TV was a not as successful as I had imagined after pictures and music showed up and played immediately. The Bravia TV didn´t list any of the video files.
After reading similar problems in this forum and googling the Internet, I found that Sony has a few sample files (see https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31351 ), including a MPEG2 file, called sony_eye_candy.mpg. I downloaded it and also placed it in the ReadyNAS Videos share. Then the TV did list some of the files with the file format mpg, mp4, wmv and avi. The mov, m2v, 3gp and 3g2 still didn´t list. The avi didn´t play on the TV. But I could play the mpg, mp4 and wmv. The same Sony support page says:
"NOTE: Files from the network must be in the following formats:
Still images: JPEG format
Music: MP3 or Linear PCM format
Video: AVCHD or MPEG 2 format "
This leads me to believe that the Bravia TV doesn´t properly list a DLNA directory until it finds its default supported file format in there. And it will not show formats it doesn´t support (like 3gp that´s more likely to be used on smartphones).
Does anyone have the same experience?
Will using the Plex Media Server on ReadyNAS 516 solve the listing of files problem?
Will using the Plex Media Server on ReadyNAS 516 solve the playing of the mov, m2v, 3gp and 3g2 (e.g. by transcoding to MPEG2)?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserPlex can transcode. AVCHD is H.264, which is also used in m2v. So in that case the issue is likely the audio track (aac, and not mp3 or PCM).
- dsnpevlVirtuosoThis is a link to the supported formats for the Sony Bravia TVs. Replace "KDL32EX720" with your model number to find out the exact specification for your TV.

Resampled some of my pictures in Photoshop, but the TV didn't show them. Instead a message "Unable to show file" ("Afspelen niet beschikbaar.") appears. This blog article describes the problem.

After looking into the chroma resampling in JPG by Photoshop, I found that saving the JPG with a quality setting of 6 solves the problem. Background information can be found in the link below.
