Sorry, I teach Aristotle, So I'm stumped
Symptoms:
Readynas Duo 3.5 years old
Turns on and off properly, but delays on both up to 60 seconds
Blue light flashes. Green light steady on Disk I; flashes on disk II (I have removed Disk II)
**Raidar won't read disk** - BUT -
I just got an email message -- Disk 1 has 21063 smart errors (Yikes) - that's the first reported problem with Disk I
Disk 2 has some 200 smart errors (that's why I removed it)
Both are Seagate 1TB
Action: I removed Disk 2 to replace it (haven't done it yet)
Question:
Disk II seems to be in better shape than Disk I.
-- can Disk II be used to recover (and copy) data to a new disk
--if so, how?
-- using the ReadyNas Duo?
-- other? (I'm afraid to put Disk II into position/slot of Disk I for fear it will reformat)
Assuming this data can be recovered:
Both current disks are 1 TB. If Disk II can be used for recovery, will it (a 1 TB disk) work in slot 1 with a new 1.5 tb disk in slot II? Or should my new disks also be all 1TB?
Please advise. This is so simple for you, and hard for me ... and, in return, I'll be glad to tell you about Aristotle's various levels of friendship and how they lead to true happiness. (Aquinas is extra).

- glemAspirantI assume your NAS is configured in Raid1 or X-Raid. You can try to start with disk2 only : stop your NAS, remove disk1 and put disk2 in disk2 position. And then, start your readyNAS
- Christopher_ManAspirantThanks. Disk I is removed and Disk II is in and Raidar Connects.
Volume status is blank
I get two green lights under "disk status" (again, only Disk II is in)
I also get a "corrupt root" message under the "i" with a circle around it ("firmware revision status")
And this message about firmware:
A newer version of the firmware for your ReadyNAS device is now available. To install it, please go to the System page and click on the Update tab. Then, go to the Remote tab, click the Check For Update button, then click Perform System Update.
However, I cannot get the browser to open the Front View Wizard to access the "system page" for the firmware update
Note: while Raidar can find the ReadyNas, it doesn't yet appear on my PC's "Network" (Windows 2010) - Christopher_ManAspirantJust noted that, in addition to the above, the ReadyNas Duo has:
Blue Light flashing on-off-on-off
Green lights (one above two below) flashing ...---...--- -- that's not quite SOS, but i don't know what it means. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserLight error patterns are here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=324
Yours doesn't quite match, but is close to the corrupt root you are getting from RAIDar (...--- is corrupt root).
