Thumbs.db error and loosing network contact
Hi there,
i got two problems with my readynas:
1. Sometimes, when I try to delete a folder I get an error message that says that explorer still uses the thumbs.db. The folders contain mp3-files and aocassionally jpg-coverfiles. I use Win7 and can't deavtivate the thumbs-view because I need it for my jpgs. I finally am able to delete the folder when I wait some seconds or open the folder again, but this is quite annoying.
2. Yesterday I listened to some mp3s while moving and sorting folders, renamed them etc ... and all of a sudden foobar stopped playing and explorer hung while renaming a folder (it seemed the contact to the readynas was lost). After halb a minute it suddenly went on playing and I could use explorer again. This repeated for several times. The readynas log showed no problems afterwards.
I have a 100mbit network (should be enough), win7, readynas with currently one hd.
Any ideas are highly appreciated :)
Regards
Marcel
PS: and another question - is it a problem to use two different but compatible hds with the same capacity and speed as an x-raid? I currently use samsung, but those disc are currently not available.

- dbott67GuideNot sure about question 1. Just a guess, but it may be related to OPLOCKS:

It *may* be related to this: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=260soulseeker wrote: PS: and another question - is it a problem to use two different but compatible hds with the same capacity and speed as an x-raid? I currently use samsung, but those disc are currently not available.
As long as the disks are on the HCL, you can use disks with different # of platters, different cache and different manufacturers. - soulseekerAspirantthanks ... I disabled oplocks for the music-share and will be testing the next days. Auto-Update was also active, let's see if this is the cause for the network-lag.
- soulseekerAspiranthi again,
the thumbs.db error is still there ... oplocks wasn't the cause :( ... any other ideas?
thanks
Marcel - dbott67GuideWhat model ReadyNAS and which version of firmware are you running?

- soulseekerAspirantHi,
here is a solution for the thumbs.db-problem:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... 057fbf805/ - nav1AspirantI've had backups failing between my ReadyNAS Pro units becuase of this issue. Thank you very much!
-nav. - PapaBear1ApprenticeThumbs.db is a Windows generated file. Yes they are difficult to remove. I have never had a backup job fail because of the thumbs.db, it is copied over like all the rest, maybe because I'm using rsync for NAS to NAS backup.
soulseeker - that fix was for Windows Home Server. Any idea how to do it on the NAS? - soulseekerAspirantthe fix isn't for windows, it is for all network related shares. Therefore it also works with the readynas, because windows generates these files on the nas-fileshare.
- phoenix2149AspirantCan somebody for the love of GOD please solve this problem.
It is UNBELIEVABLE that Microsoft or Netgear for that matter can't find, or willing to find a suitable solution. I'm almost bald!!!! keep pulling my hair out of my sockets........
I'm really hanging on the balance of returning my NAS. This is very unsettling and not workable AT ALL.
