TimeMachine not working after Factory Reset

Due to various volume problems on my ReadyNAS NVX, I recently backed up all my data and performed a factory reset. To backup the TimeMachine data, I used the backup manager to copy the data to a Windows share. After the factory reset was complete, I restored my settings, and used the backup manager to restore the TimeMachine data onto the ReadyNAS. Now when TimeMachine tries to do a backup, I get, "The backup disk image .....sparsebundle could not be accessed (error 13)." I've even tried deleting the sparsebundle to start a fresh TimeMachine backup for one of my computers and I get permission denied.

Did the restore onto the ReadyNAS somehow mess up the permissions? Is there an easy fix?

    Do you have SSH access?

    If so can you post the output of the following?:

    ls -la /c/.timemachine
  • I haven't enabled RootSSH. Is that going to be my only option for fixing this? I don't want to run into potential issues later with tech support if I need it.

    Contact support then and post your case number. Not sure if a fee would be involved or not but a L3 tech should be able to remotely look at something like this.
  • I bit the bullet and enabled ssh. The perms on /c/.timemachine were definitely wrong. Owner was my username, and the group was an unknown gid. Changed it back to ReadyNAS and root and I could now write from my Mac to the ReadyNAS share. This was after I tried:

    = Restoring again with the "Set permissions to the owner of the share when complete" option
    - Restoring from an empty share

    I'm restoring the actual backup again and will see what wonky things the ReadyNAS does with the permissions.
