Two MAC addresses
I have a new ReadyNAS Pro 6.
I already have an NVX and that is working just fine. It is connected directly to my router.
In RAIDAR my Pro sometimes shows two MAC addresses! Is that normal? The last letter of one is A and the other is B. It is like RAIDAR is showing two NASs called Pro, but there is only one. It started off doing that, then stopped of its own accord (just showing the A address), and now it is showing two MAC addresses again (after a reboot of the Pro).
I used to be able to access the Pro through Setup in RAIDAR. When I could it kept saying under the network interface tab that the Pro was offline (orange flashing light). I have tried various combinations of DCHP auto and assigned IP address (including both MAC addresses) in the RAIDAR setup and in the (Netgear) router. The ReadyNAS thinks it is at 192.168.0.24 no matter what I do. I have tried rebooting the Pro. Doesn't help.
I wonder if it because I am accessing the Pro via one or two network switches, i.e. computer - router - switch - switch - Pro, though I did try plugging my laptop direct into the switch which is connected directly to the Pro, which made no difference, and when I can access the Pro (sometimes I can, sometimes I can't) the Pro had no problems sending me a test email via my ISP email server, in other words it can find the internet. The reason the Pro is not plugged directly into my router is that (a) I have run out of router network sockets and (b) the Pro is somewhere else in the house.
I just don't get why the Pro thinks it is offline when RAIDAR can find it, why the Pro has two MAC addresses, and why sometimes, even though RAIDAR can find the Pro, when I click setup (on the A or B MAC address) I just get a blank window (the usual Netgear window with the yellow edging with a Netgear header but nothing else inside).
Am thinking of doing a factory reset because as yet no data on the Pro, just four disks that the Pro has formatted, but not sure if this is a network issue (and if so how to fix it).
Any wise words of advice would be gratefully received.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMy pro-6 shows only one mac in RAIDar. Both ethernet ports are used (with teaming configured in the NAS and the switch). Do you have both ethernet ports connected to the switch? If so, maybe try disconnecting one. When it is accessible, try looking at the network stats, and see if there are lots of retransmissions, etc. You might also try a different ethernet cable, or moving the NAS to a different switch port.
Cascading two switches shouldn't matter. RAIDar should be getting the mac address directly from the response it receives from the pro. What model switches are you using?
I would try an OS install from the boot menu before trying a factory default. You are also entitled to free phone support for 90 days after purchase. You could try that avenue. There is something wrong if you can't assign a static address to the NAS.
BTW, most netgear routers support IP address reservation, which is a better way to go than static addresses. However, you might need to restart the NAS (or the router) in order to get the new address to "take". - peter2011AspirantOK, thanks for that, I now see that I had the ethernet cable plugged into LAN2 rather than LAN1, so I have moved it over. That seems to have fixed it.
By the way, in case anyone else ever has similar issues, the two MAC addresses are for each of the two ethernet ports.
I've now got another issue, but I'll start a new thread.
