Ultra 4 stuck booting (boot menu)

Hi!

After upgrading to the last firmware (V.4.2.28) my Ultra 4 is stuck on the boot menu.

The menu doesnt seem to work, pressing the backup button doesnt do anything.

What to do?

Is it safe to downgrade the firmware as expalined here?

Best regards

Martin

  • This is a known potential side effect of USB Boot Recovery (wiping the EEPROM data), which is why we generally don't recommend doing USB Boot Recovery on legacy x86 and legacy ARM systems. However in this case it does sound like using it was necessary.

I have sent you a PM.

Note also (if you have not already) that when you do USB Boot Recovery you can use the latest firmware image: RAIDiator-x86-4.2.28, rather than any older version included in the USB Boot Recovery zip file.

  • You should call a friend. Like they do in "Vem vill bli miljonär"...

      Well, tried that, didn´t help.

What did help though was to put my disks in a friends identical NAS. Works perfekt.

Tried the USB-recovery with numerous USB-drives but it doesn´t seem to work...

        Hello skaris,

        Welcome to the community!

Not sure why that happened after FW update.

If you can access your files using NAS chassis of your friend with your disks inserted, back up the files. There may be a need to factory reset your NAS chassis.

        Regards,

  • Ok. So is it possible to do a factory reset without access to the boot menu?

      Hello skaris,

You can try with one of the disks inserted, switching from one disk to another. Factory Reset is through boot menu. You need to at least have a copy of the files before destroying the redundant array and trying one disk or two when accessing boot menu to proceed to factory reset.

      Hello Skaris!

It seems that the option "call a friend" paid off. You don't own a brick anymore. You do however owe your friend (me) a seriously big favour.

Like a really, really big favour. GIANT!

OK! So with a little (a lot) help from EdBaker we´ve managed to get my NAS up and running again (usb recovery)

But the Front VIew doesn´t work. It shows only the panel but no buttons or data.

Tried all things i´ve found on this forum i think including Factory restore but nothing seems to work.

This friday it´s getting replaced if i cant find a solution till then.....

  • The IP is displayed on the nas. Raidar finds the nas. I can access all my shares and files.
    Front view doesn't work.

      Hi skaris,

For the time being, it would be best if you will start backing up your data. Then we'll work on your issue with the admin page.

      Kind regards,

  • It is backed up!
Factofy restored so it's all empty at the moment.

        YES!

My Ultra 4 is now up and running again, fully functional as far as I can see.

        mdgm´s fix did the trick.

Thanks to all who have taken their time to help out!
